  • FROM ME: Apparently, staying in bed with my eyes open for 5 - 10 minutes doesn't work because I'm a fucking puss. So, I didn't think this was right and he said:

    I think you should get out of the bed and visit the bathroom 馃槉 Seriously, a short bathroom visit will be much more effective than trying to stay awake in bed for 5 minutes. The bathroom visit can be very quick so it doesn't wake you up entirely, yet it can recondition your mind to a state better suited for SSILD.

    There is no need to 鈥渃oncentrate!鈥 The beauty of SSILD is that it does not require you to focus, concentrate, or apply whatever mental effort typically required by other methods. Just 鈥渄o it鈥, and that's all. It's the 鈥済estures鈥 that matter.


    Try this: when doing the cycles, lie flat on your back, cross your hands and place them right under your chest. Once you've completed a few cycles and ready to sleep, turn to the side. You can do a few quick cycles to compensate for the physical movement, then just drop everything and sleep as quickly as possible (as described in my previous message).


    Do remember to RC after you wake up again. If it fails, don't despair, just sink your head into the pillow, do a few quick cycles, then gently raise your hand to grab your nose. If even that fails, just go back to sleep. Next awakening (FA) might just work!

    Making a subreddit based on a ld technique seems like a silly idea. If you have a technique that works then share it here, I'd say.  
    When you say that there is no need to concentrate, do you mean that I don't have to clear my mind of any thoughts as I stare into the darkness or do another cycle?

    I'm just a bit confused if I should keep actively trying to have a clear mind or if I can allow myself to think about whatever my mind wanders to without worrying that it'll mess the cycles up.

    It sounds like I can let my mind wander, but I would just like to make sure I am correct haha I've had SSID work once but I tried to clear my mind the whole time.  
    Clearing mind etc are all old habits/requirements from traditional methods which, honestly, don't work so well. The unique approach of SSILD is to avoid ANY delicate mental efforts! Therefore, you are not only free to, but encouraged to let your mind wander! Do the cycles leisurely. SSILD does not demand finesse. Simple and stupid, that's the way to do it.

    Hi, I have tried SSILD for a couple of times without success but I'm just gonna continue trying because I believe one day I'll reach there. The closest i was was a false awakening. My question is, when I do SSILD, I close my eyes, I feel sleepy, I start doing the cycles, maybe after 1 cycle my mind starts to wander and I'll follow... After maybe a minute I'll realise, heck, I've only done 1 cycle, I then do another cycle but I might not even finish that cycle my mind will start wandering again. If I actively try to focus and clear my mind, I tried, then I ended up too awake after finishing 5 cycles and it took 30 minutes or even more to sleep again, and by then I suppose it doesn't work anymore? Im quite confused and hoping for some guidance. Thanks!  
    When you do the WBTB, you're supposed to hit the sweet spot of not being TOO awake and not being TOO sleepy. As Cosmic Iron told me, you should experiment with the lights and how long. He suggested to go into the bathroom, take a piss with the lights on with your eyes open. Then go to bed and try again.  
    The purpose of the sub is to provide tech support specifically to people trying the technique. Without a centralized place it's next to impossible for me to do that.
