• 主题:Reality Checks Important Silly Question Perhaps.
  • I'm at a novice level of lucid dreaming with one successful astral projection so far and a few strange paralysis experiences, and I'm also starting to have dreams basically every night.. what makes reality checks important for dreams? Is it to reassure yourself it's a dream  so you don't get too excited and wake up? Doing that seems like a challenge on its own since I'm only usually a spectator of these not so vivid dreams...

Or is it to keep you from literally jumping off a cliff in the physical world as opposed to the dream world? I suppose I just need to practice more, and stop falling asleep with headphones on too maybe..
Lemme clear up a few things first off. You always have dreams every night multiple in fact, As to reality checks they are very useful. They can keep you lucid or even make you lucid, Imagine you're sitting on your bet trying to go to sleep but just can't, Decide to do a reality check and realize you're actually dreaming. Also if you're newer to lucid dreaming you might lose lucidity in dreams so it's good to keep reminding you that you're dreaming via reality checks. Also astral projection discussion on the sidebar they don't want it.
I see.. I believe I had a brief reality check in my dream the night before .. I seen some words on  a worksite sign that looked off.. so I leaned in super close and when I was able to process it, it said YOURE IN A DREAM YOURE IN A DREAM .. then my excitement woke me up.. I guess I answered my own question.. just hard to tell when you really are in the dream I think my discomfort in bed made it difficult.. cheers for the feedback.
It's not hard to tell if you're in a dream if you reality check that's the point haha
The word I'm looking for is vivid..  my dreams happen in a fog and only last like 5-6 seconds .. that's the problem.. gonna try deeper sleep tonight
It's not so much about keeping you from jumping off a cliff. When we are wide awake we usually don't need to RC, we simply KONW it's the reality. And of course, any of the RCs will fail so there is no danger there.

RCs are mainly used as a trigger for more lucidity. We need RCs to succeed in order to be assured that we are indeed dreaming. Once we go past that we are officially in a lucid dream and we can try to further increase our lucidity.
    Reality checks serves 2 purposes.

1: It is something that assures you that you must be dreaming, in order to have your conscious mind truly aware of your reality that your in a dream.

How do you know you are dreaming without a way to check?  A reality check is something that assures you that you are dreaming. Most easily done using your own body, but some use other things.

And, they serve to prevent you from jumping off a cliff, thinking you can fly because you thought you were dreaming but you were wrong. You need to be sure you are dreaming, before getting all crazy with the tricks your going to be pulling.

Also, it is easy to forget you are dreaming, and become distracted, doing RC helps you remember its a dream, as its on going.

I don't recommend anything that could distract your sleep, such as head phones, as I think it makes your sleep lighter or distorted, and may contribute to foggy dreams. I recommend deeper sleeps for vividness.
